You’ll remember that, back in July, I reviewed IfIHadAHiFi’s Nada Surf EP +3. I know you’ll remember because you obviously read every post on this site. Now you might ask, “Why did you put out the review three months before the album comes out?” This is a question I’ve been asking myself, as I’ve eagerly awaited the day where I can actually discuss the album with other fans.

Unfortunately, for the moment, I don’t know when that day will be, as IfIHadAHiFi announced via their blog that the release has been delayed due to a copyright issue. One of their songs samples NWA wrestler Harley Race putting a $25,000 bounty on Ric Flair’s head. Drummer/Vocalist Dr. Awkward explains, “Because we are morons, it completely escaped us that the audio may be under copyright to a certain wrestling company that, in 2001, bought all of the National Wrestling Alliance’s video library.” Fortunately, it’s likely the band will find a way to alter the song, but it will likely delay the release by months:

“We’re hatching some fun plans right now that we’ll divulge once we’ve confirmed that they can come to fruition, but the huge drag is that this means that the song has to be remixed and remastered, and the lacquer re-cut before the vinyl can get pressed. A costly error on our part, to be sure, and it looks like it means the official release date will be pushed to sometime in January of 2012 (almost two years after Nada Surf’s If I Had A Hi-Fi was released, which means that we suck at capitalizing on cheap promo).”

Bummer. The good news is that IfIHadAHiFi will play a handful of dates in September and October, so hit those shows and buy some merch to contribute to the ‘Bounty Transfer Fund.’ Check out the dates below:
